If you are planning a day of sunbathing, listen up.
Tests performed by the Environmental Working Group, or E-W-G, found that four out of five brand-name sunscreens don’t adequately protect consumers. The E-W-G tested nearly a thousand well known sunscreen products and developed a ratings system which factored in: U-V-A protection,
product stability, and potential health hazards of the product’s ingredients. Four out of five sunscreens tested either failed to provide enough protection or posed an excessive health risk due to harmful chemicals in the product.
Some of the leading brands scored the worst: None of Coppertone’s forty-one sunscreen products met the study criteria for safety and efficacy. Neutrogena and Banana Boat didn’t do so well either.
